On 25th April, 2023, Julie Morgan, the Deputy Minister for Social Services in Wales, issued a formal apology for historic adoption practices, following the UK’s Parliamentary Inquiry into these issues by the Joint Committee on Human Rights. Their findings were published in this report: The Violation of Family Life: Adoption of Children of Unmarried Women 1949-1976. Though the Welsh government did not exist at the time forced adoptions were taking place, the era affected many Welsh women.
